You may have heard of the whole en bloc episode that happened with Pearl Bank Apartments in Chinatown.

We’re all sad to see it go – developer Capitaland even organised a final photowalk of the building after the last of its residents moved out:

What’s next for the soon-to-be-demolished Pearl Bank Apartments?

One Pearl Bank – a rebirth of the original Pearl Bank Apartments – was recently unveiled with a design that’s very reminiscent of its well-loved predecessor.

Curved facades? Check. Super tall towers? Check. Outstandingly photogenic? Check.

Standing at 178 metres tall, the 2 39-storey towers of One Pearl Bank will be crowned the district’s tallest building once it’s built up, nabbing the crown from Pinnacle@Duxton.

The view? A-may-zing, obviously. The 2 sleek towers will be linked at the roof by sky bridges overlooking some of the most spectacular parts of Central Singapore, from the CBD all the way to Sentosa.

One Pearl Bank will also have about 200 sky allotment gardens that residents can use to grow their own plants or even fruit and vegetables:

Other facilities include a clubhouse, open amphitheatre, gym and pool, children’s playground, BBQ areas and more.

Of the 774 apartments in the development, pick from studio apartments, 1- to 4-bedroom units and penthouses, ranging in size from 430 (roughly the size of a 2-room HDB flat) to 2,800 square feet.

Developments in the area

Btw, Pearl Bank Apartments isn’t the only one getting a makeover.

Scheduled for completion in 2023, the nearby Outram MRT Station will also be a triple-line interchange station by then, serving the East-West Line, North-East Line and upcoming Thomson-East Coast line.

As part of the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s (URA) Draft Master Plan 2019, the adjacent Pearl’s Hill City Park will also be rejuvenated and linked to Fort Canning Park through the scenic Singapore River.

Old meets new

And what better way for a heritage-rich building to embrace the new than to have… an Instagram account?
