Carousell TechTalks

On Tuesdays, we like to have talks and workshops to share knowledge and creative ideas about coding and engineering. Often, we’ll invite members of the public to come and join us and share your thoughts and ideas too.

Check into this page regularly to see if there are any talks coming up that you might be interested in.

How Scrum can help create stories that effectively capture the customer value you’re delivering!

We had a great talk about Scrum last Tuesday with a very enthusiastic crowd of Carousell engineers and guests, including some really insightful conversations with our guests about their challenges with Agile and Scrum. We’ve got part 2 next Tuesday, and we’re looking forward to more great discussions!

Topic: Scrum Fundamentals, Pt 2
Presenters: Jordan Dea-Mattson, Carousell VP of Engineering
Date and time: 25 April 2017, 7pm onwards
Address: 240 Tanjong Pagar Road, #12-00 Keppel Tower 2, Singapore 088540

Having gone through the overview and basics of Scrum last Tuesday, we’ll now be delving deeper into Sprint Goals, User Stories and Acceptance Criteria. You’ll learn what can be considered effective and ineffective definitions of these concepts, and the tools that can help in this process. Also, we’ll discuss how the team can have a shared understanding of what it means to be “done”.

If you’re working in engineering, product management, or just in defining and delivering products, you should come and join our talk! Food and drink will be provided, as well as good company! Hope to see you here! You can sign up here.

Learn how Scrum can help you run great engineering teams

Calling all engineers! The Carousell engineering team will be conducting a series of four weekly talks about Scrum and its many benefits for product and engineering teams. The first talk starts next week on 18 April, with the subsequent talks on the following weeks.

Come and drop by our new office and be inspired by the senior management team at Carousell Engineering, including our VP of Engineering Jordan Dea-Mattson.

Topic: Applying Scrum for Better Delivery

Presenters: Jordan and Engineering Managers

Date and time: 18 April 2017, 7pm onwards

Address: 240 Tanjong Pagar Road, #12-00 Keppel Tower 2, Singapore 088540

For the first week’s talk, we’ll be giving an overview of Scrum and how it works, including the processes, practices and artifacts involved. We’ll show you how to do it properly while avoiding cargo cult engineering. You’ll also learn the reasons why there are certain “rituals” around Scrum practices (such as daily standups and sprint planning) and why they are important to build high-performing product and engineering teams.

So come on down and enjoy an enlightening evening of engineering discussions! Food and drink will be provided, as well as good company!
