Alex Scherrer: Carouseller sells her preloved clothes to get her to Paris

Losing her job, Alex Scherrer, took the chance to travel the world after selling her possessions on Carousell.

“Not all those who wonder are lost” as the story goes. You always hear stories of wanderlusters who quit their job, sell their material possessions and travel the world. For 20-year-old Alex Scherrer (Carouseller @alexsch101) from Hawthorn East, Melbourne, this dream became an unexpected reality when she lost her job as a waitress, five months before a trip of a lifetime to France.

In Paris – Finally!

With only $100 in her day-to-day bank account to live off and no savings towards her upcoming travels, Alex hardly saw friends or socialised because she couldn’t afford life in general.

She then took to online buying and selling on Carousell where over those five months she was able to earn over half a thousand dollars, allowing her to pursue a French getaway of her dreams.

“Joining Carousell gave me a daily incentive to put myself out there and make some fast, easy cash.”

Selling my clothes was, in a way, actually very therapeutic for me during a very difficult time.

Sending my pre-loved belongings to another home was also helping me say goodbye to a lot of baggage… emotional, not the travel kind!”

Having joined the online buying and selling platform late 2016, Alex has grown her profile by selling consistently reliable items, having a fast turnover of listings (she currently has over 70 items for sale) and building a bank of positive reviews (100% positive). She sells a range of new and pre-loved items o

In her profile including a KOOKAI Halter Top, giant Inflatable Donut and fluffy Elephant Onesie. Never short on charisma and charm, Alex loves to create relationships with her buyers (quick, effective communication is key) to ensure a mutual trust and understanding.

With all of the extra money now in her savings thanks to Carousell, Alex is eagerly anticipating

a chance to do some soul searching during her once-in-a-lifetime holiday in the south of France, where she will be spending two months with family and friends.

“The most amazing aspect of Carousell is that it’s self-sufficient,” Alex says.

“It’s almost like being your own boss, as only you

can choose what you want to sell, decide how much you want to sell it for, negotiate with potential buyers and receive feedback.

Carousell is a platform where people just like me can share, sell and buy safely. It’s a modern day treasure hunt!”
