If you’re already familiar with Carousell Bumps, you might have noticed that there are two options. A free option and a paid one.
Let’s look at how different they are.
Free Bump vs 3-Day Bump
Some of you may have tried dropping the price of your items to get a Free Bump. Or, you could have paid for a 3-Day Bump.
Did you know that the benefits they give you are different?
Let’s look at how these two options work and what benefits you get from them.
How do Free Bumps work?
You can get a Free Bump by dropping the price of your items by 10%.
Once you do, your item will be at the top of the marketplace.
Let’s say you drop the price for your item on Wednesday at 6:57 pm. It immediately gets Bumped to the top. But, this only happens once.
It’s important for you to know that you cannot immediately drop the price of your new listing to get a Free Bump. We’ll recommend you to wait at least seven days before dropping your asking price. You never know how much buyers are willing to pay.
The free option doesn’t Bump your item for three times over three consecutive days. That’s the paid option, a 3-Day Bump.
Important Note: Carousell does not earn when you drop the price of your items. You’re only dropping the asking price for your item.
How do 3-Day Bumps work?
A 3-Day Bump pushes your item to the top of the category three times over three consecutive days.
Let’s say you bought a 3-Day Bump for your item on Thursday at 6:57 pm. Your item will immediately get bumped to the top.
Your item will be at the top again two more times, on Friday and Saturday at 6:57 pm.
It will cost you a different amount depending on the category you list your item. If you’re interested, click here to see the breakdown on how much Carousell Bumps costs you.
So, now you know the difference between a 3-Day Bump and a Free Bump.
But did you know that the paid option can be cheaper than a free one? We’ll explain why.
How a Paid Bump can be cheaper than a Free Bump
The best way to explain this is an example.
The new iPhone is coming out soon, and you might be thinking about selling your iPhone 7 on Carousell before its value drops.
Let’s say you decided to sell your iPhone 7 on Carousell for $900.
You chose to get a Free Bump. Here’s a simple calculation:
$900 – 10% = $810
That’s $90 less than your asking price. You’re losing $90, and you’re only getting the Bump for one day.
Let’s show you how it’s cheaper to pay for a 3-Day Bump.
A 3-Day Bump for an iPhone will cost you 698 Carousell Coins (our in-app currency). The 698 Carousell Coins will cost you $6.98.
Click here to find out how much Carousell Bumps cost you for your item.
Let’s do the math:
$900 – $6.98 = $893.02
If you successfully sell your iPhone at $900, you will still earn $893.02 with a 3-Day Bump. You’ll only earn $810 with a Free Bump.
That’s $83 you will be saving with a 3-Day Bump.
What’s more? You get to enjoy three consecutive days at the top of the marketplace instead of one! That means you get two more days to attract interested buyers for your item with more views leading to more chats.
However, buying a Bump will not always result in a huge margin of savings. Here’s an easy way to find out if it’s cheaper to purchase a 3-Day Bump versus a Free Bump.
This guide shows you how much Carousell Bumps cost you in each category. Compare the price of the Bump with how much you might lose with a Free Bump ($Y).
Use this formula:
Get a 3-Day Bump if it’s cheaper than a Free Bump. If it costs the same, buy the 3-Day Bump anyway because you get to enjoy three days at the top.
